On a Mission to Craft a STOL Sensation: The Yooper Cub 2.0 Build Unveiled
By Anitra Goddard, Thursday, January 25, 2024, STOLNation
The heartbeat of aviation innovation beats strong in Hangar 27 in Escanaba, Michigan, as a groundbreaking project is taking shape. Rick Ness, a seasoned pilot with a passion for pushing the boundaries of flight, is leading the construction of the Yooper Cub 2.0 – a machine that promises to be cutting-edge in the world of STOL and experimental aircraft.
The foundation of Yooper Cub 2.0 is a Javron PA-18 fuselage with extended wings, setting the stage for a truly extraordinary aircraft. However, what sets this build apart is not just the choice of base kit, but the meticulous attention to detail in the use of advanced materials. Carbon fiber, titanium, and a selection of lightweight components are being integrated into every inch of this aircraft, creating a super cub with unparalleled performance potential. It is uncertain just how light this powerhouse of a cub will be, but Ness and his team are confident she's going to be a big performer.
The heartbeat of Yooper 2.0 is a Continental Titan 0370, a powerful engine that serves as the nucleus of this high-performance aircraft. Enhanced with high horsepower and lightweight modifications, this cub is poised to be a game-changer in the world of Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) in competition and the backcountry, alike.
Learning from the experiences gained during the creation of Yooper 1.0, Rick Ness and the skilled team of experimental aircraft engineers and builders at AaL Industries Aviation LLC are on a mission to craft a Javron PA18 that stands head and shoulders above the rest. This is not just an upgrade; it's a leap forward into uncharted territory.
The Yooper Cub 2.0 build is not just a technical feat; it's a testament to years of flying experience, passion for aviation, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries. With nearly 700 off-airport hours logged, including a daring 5-week journey to the Yukon, Alaska, and back in 2019, Rick Ness's dedication to the craft is evident in every rivet and fiber of this aircraft.
As the project progresses, stay tuned for exclusive pictures and in-depth insights into the Yooper Cub 2.0
In the meantime be sure to find Rick on Instagram and Facebook to follow along on all of his backcountry adventures and shenanigans in his Yooper 1.0! If you want to learn more details about Yooper 1.0 check out Rick’s profile on STOLNation.
